Technical analyst J. Welles Welder established an indicator to determine the strength of the market. The relative strength indicator defines the overbought and oversold areas of the market. When the Relative Strength Index prints a reading of more than 70 for a stock or currency pair, it indicates that the asset is overbought. Similarly, if it prints less than 30, it means the asset is oversold.
