The Central Bank of the Russian (CBR) Federation is also known as the Bank of Russia. The functions of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation are regulated in the Russian Constitution and special federal laws. The Russian Federation, founded in 1860, was originally the State Bank of the Russian Empire.
According to the Constitution, the Bank of Russia is an independent entity whose main responsibility is to protect the stability of the national currency such as the ruble. It also has the exclusive right to issue ruble banknotes and coins.
